Preiss symbolises his personal philosophy with the world's most diligent insect ... the honey bee.

In opposition to the hard gold that can have destructive consequences in our lives, the soft gold called "honey" by Preiss, has only beneficial qualities.

By describing Preiss's philosophy of honey, the focus is mainly on the similar structures of the honeycomb and the human brain. With myriads of actions going on in the two, Helmut Preiss draws his thought process to gain the ultimate expression in his  work.

Like the honeybees untiring strife to produce the end product of his labour, a similar process is going on in his brain and Preiss is utilizing this phenomena, in his own unique way, during the creation of his artworks.

Based on a six part poetic/philosophical manuscript, written originally in German, Helmut Preiss invites us to open our eyes and see things the way he does.  With the understanding of the philosophy of honey, the observer can recognise it in his works.

HELMUT PREISS THE MUSICIAN

In 1979, Preiss took a brief departure from the art world to fulfill another dream,

making music.

He recorded a full length LP at Musicland Studios in Munich, "The Rocking Painter".

The album was released in 1980 and featured music by Robert Ponger and Giorgio Moroder. Sounding a bit like Johnny Cash and Elvis, Preiss took his show on the road, entertaining crowds with his live multi media act. Singing songs about love, art, heartache and the pursuit of "the American dream". Although he enjoyed music and entertaining,

he soon began to miss his true love and returned to painting.
